Are Gold Crowns The Best?

Dental crowns are tooth covers that are placed on damaged teeth. They are applied to those teeth which can not be repaired with dental fillings or other dental treatments. These dental crowns are usually permanent. Dental crowns can last a long time as compared to other dental treatments, which you have to repeat after some time, whereas dental crowns can last somewhere from 15 to 30 years. Typically, dental crowns are made up of metals, porcelain, resin, and ceramics. Different people opt for different kinds of dental crowns depending upon the lifetime each substance provides and the price range most suitable for the patient. Many people feel the need for dental crowns at a particular stage in their lifetime. Teeth can be damaged due to injuries, infections, or simply use with time. Most of the time, the damage can be managed by merely filling any cavity or providing any simple dental procedure which can be the solution suitable for that problem. But in some cases, the damage is very severe and can not be reversed by these simple procedures, like a chipped tooth or discoloration of teeth, which however managed, still have a bad physical impact. As teeth are a very important part of our personalities and a bad set of teeth has a very drastic impact on our lives, leaving those teeth with a bad look can be very problematic for a person. So, in order to save themselves from that embarrassment, people get dental crowns which make their smiles more attractive and give their personality a boost.

You May Need A Dental Crown For Several Reasons -Protection, sometimes teeth tend to weaken with time, so a dental crown can help with maintaining the tooth health and shielding it from damage -Tooth restoration of a broken or a worn out tooth -Drastically damaged teeth, when filled, can require the support of a dental crown -Holding a dental bridge in place -Severe discoloration of teeth can be covered -Covering a dental implant -A tooth that went through a root canal treatment What Are Dental Crowns Made Of? Dental crowns can be made up of different materials. The choice of these materials solely depends upon the budget and needs of the patient. Some people like a funky or stylish theme, whereas most go with a more natural look which is harder to differentiate from the original teeth. Substances mostly used for these procedures are as follows: -METALS: Metals are the hardest and the longest-lasting materials which are chosen for dental crowns. Dental crowns can be made using different metals like gold, palladium, nickel, and chromium. These provide a very strong covering of the patient's teeth. These substances can withstand strong mechanical forces like biting and chewing and are very hard to chip. The only main drawback of these materials is that they are not physically appealing and are very visible. However, these metals are a good choice for those teeth which are not visible, like molars. -RESIN: Resins can also be used for dental crowns. These are comparatively less expensive. But there is a problem with them, they wear down with time and are more likely to break as compared to the metal ones. They are, however, more aesthetically pleasing. -PORCELAIN+METAL: These are a type of dental crown which is made with a metal at the inner part, but the outer covering is made up of porcelain or ceramic material. These dental crowns can be matched to the tooth color and are a good choice for frontal teeth. These can sometimes be problematic because the outer portion of these, made up of ceramic or porcelain material, can easily chip, and the covered metal can be visible. -PORCELAIN OR CERAMIC: Dental crowns are sometimes made of ceramic or porcelain materials. These dental crowns are also a good choice for the front teeth because these can be made to match exactly the tooth color. However, they are more likely to chip as compared to the metal and porcelain-fused-to-metal dental crowns. Are Gold Crowns The Best? Practically, gold crowns are the best option for dental crowns. This is because of their solid form. Gold is a tough metal and is very hard to deform with physical force as applied by our mouth. Gold crowns can withstand the forces of chewing, and it protects the inner part. Gold crowns don't chip or discolor as compared to other fragile materials which deform with time. Moreover, being a tough metal, gold crowns provide long life, up to 15 years and even 25-30 years in some cases with care and good dental hygiene. Gold is a flexible metal and is very easy to work with. Gold doesn't crack on applied force, thus making it a good choice for dentists. The only drawback I can think of with gold crowns is the color. The color of gold is very prominent, and it can be seen in the patient's mouth, so it is not so suitable for those teeth which are always visible, like the front ones. However, gold crowns are the go-to material for the teeth which are not visible, like the molars. These crowns can stay in place when applied to the molars and prove to be very practical as compared to other materials because the molars apply good strength while chewing food, and not all materials can withstand these forces, which can result in chipping. As for the front teeth which are visible, dental crowns of a more teeth-matching material are generally preferred.

Are Gold Crowns Safe? Evidence indicates that gold is the best material that can be used for dental crowns because gold is most compatible with our body, and no signs of toxicity or adverse effects can be seen with the use of gold in the mouth. Other metals, as compared to gold, when used for dental crowns or other dental procedures, often result in bleeding or pain in the mouth. These materials result to be harmful for our bodies, and most patients can't tolerate them. But with gold crowns, people do not experience any nerve problems or gum bleeding, making the gold crowns a better and safer choice. How Long Do Gold Dental Crowns Last? When it comes to reliable dental solutions, gold dental crowns have been a popular choice for more than a century. They are sturdy, strong, and very durable. Gold crowns are highly resistant to chipping and cracking. Unlike some options, research has shown that gold crowns have a 95 percent survival rate over time. With proper care, it’s possible for a gold crown to last for decades.

The Doctors Are Just Stellar
Natalie R.

The sweetest people work here, I'm convinced! The ladies at the front desk always go out of their way to be kind and helpful, the hygienists listen to your concerns and will address them to their best ability, and the doctors are just stellar. I drive over 40 min from where I live to go here because it's rare to find a dental office this fantastic.

Gordon A.

This is the best dentist I have been to and I have been to several. The team is professional and welcoming. They are never over-booked and I have never waited more than 5 minutes in the lobby. They are so efficient, no matter what I go in for, I am out in 45 minutes or less. I highly recommend Cypress Family Dental.

The Staff Did A Great Job
David L.

Came to Cypress Family Dental a year ago for my sleep apnea device. No more snoring! The staff did a great job fitting me for this oral appliance. Better yet, they were there to support me when I needed some adjustments later on. The front office staff couldn't have been more accommodating to schedule me in. Easy to recommend.

They Truly Care
Tina E.

The dentist and his staff are wonderful people! In the past, I have had horrible experiences at other dentist offices and then I found this place and I don't think I would ever go anywhere else again. I live about 45 min away from their office but the drive is well worth it. They truly care about their patients. I would recommend this office to anyone.

They're All Top Notch
Julie C.

I'm so happy to have found this awesome dentist with an awesome staff. I am completely confident in the doctor's skill level, and completely comfortable relying on him to work on me without allowing me to experience unnecessary pain. In addition to having a good relationship with the dentist, being able to relate with the office staff is equally important to me. From the hygienist to the dental assistants to the front desk, they're all top notch.
