How Can You Fix Misshapen Teeth?

Tooth recontouring is a procedure in which your teeth are reshaped to fix the misshapen part of your teeth. It can enhance your smile, give you more confidence and make you feel good. It comes under cosmetic dentistry, where multiple attempts are used to align your teeth. Certain people use orthodontics braces to fix this problem.

What Are The Causes Of Misshapen Teeth? Following are some conditions that cause misshapen teeth:

-Genetic cause: A developmental fault that causes the tooth to be short, curved, and like a screw, leads to misshapen lateral incisors. This misshaped tooth draws a lot of attention because upper lateral incisors are so crucial to the aesthetics of your mouth. A cosmetic dentist is perfectly qualified to rebuild a misshapen tooth, giving you an aesthetically beautiful smile. They can select the optimal treatment for any misshapen teeth.

Some developmental disorders can also affect the generalized tooth structure. This may include small size teeth or abnormal tooth shapes.

-Trauma to the tooth: Sometimes trauma to your teeth damages the tooth structure, which leads to misshapen teeth when compared with other normal teeth. Trauma at the developmental stage can also destroy the tooth shape.

-Caries and decay of teeth: Severe decay or caries leads to loss of tooth structure. This requires buildup to reshape the tooth into its original condition. Discoloration of a tooth due to caries also needs tooth contouring to hide their darkened surfaces.

-Environmental factors: Some environments can change the shape of the tooth. Some environments have high levels of fluoride in water, which affects the look and tooth contouring. Such a phenomenon is known as fluorosis.

-Nutritional factors: Some nutrient content is very important for the correct development of the tooth. These include vitamin D, calcium, and other minerals. In the defiance of these nutrients, the shape of the tooth may change.

Can You Get Your Teeth Reshaped? The procedure for tooth reshaping must be discussed with your dentist. Your dentist will design a proper treatment plan and select materials for the contouring of your teeth. The dentist will also keep in mind the opposing teeth because over-contouring can exert extra pressure on your opposing teeth and lead to damage to the tooth-supporting structure. Large quantities of enamel removal can weaken teeth, therefore, for the best smile, tooth contouring should be kept to a minimum or paired with veneers or bonding.

How Is Tooth Reshaping Done? The procedure of tooth contouring can be done in the following steps.

-Diagnosis and selection of teeth: The dentist will examine your misshapen teeth and compare them with other teeth and formulate a plan for the final shape of your teeth. In this, your smile will improve, and there will be no disturbance in the alignment of teeth and occlusion.

-Take an X-ray: After the selection of the teeth, taking an X-ray is important. This can determine the location of the pulp from the contouring part and enable the dentist to remove the rough surface of the tooth without exposing the pulp. If there is a chance of exposing the pulp during the procedure, the dentist may refuse the treatment. Secondly, the X-ray can determine any pathological lesion below the tooth, because pathological lesions can change your plan of treatment.

-Contouring the tooth: Various dental burs are used to remove the rough surface from the tooth. This can also achieve the desired shape of the tooth. This procedure doesn't cause any discomfort, and there will be no need for anesthesia. At this stage, the dentist will also design a cavity in the tooth to receive materials for contouring.

-Use of material: For reshaping, various materials are used to bring the tooth into its original shape. This material includes composite, GIC, and amalgam. Each material has its own properties, and the dentist selects materials for your teeth based on need. Composite is widely used for tooth reshaping, it has a color like the natural tooth, which gives you a natural smile and high strength.

-Finishing stage: At this point, the final adjustment is made to bring the tooth into proper occlusal and remove the over-contouring. Secondly, the surface is polished to make it smooth and natural. Your dentist will give various advice to take care of your contoured teeth.

Is Tooth Reshaping Safe? Each procedure has its advantages and disadvantages. You should be aware of the benefits and drawbacks when thinking about teeth reshaping, just as you do with any other dental operation. Following are some of them.

Advantages -Tooth contouring can improve your smile because it brings all the teeth into alignment, which looks good and attractive when you smile. -It is one of the faster ways to enhance your smile. -Cleaning may be much simpler once teeth that are crooked or out of alignment have been. -It can be used to repair any harm brought on by bruxism, often known as teeth grinding.

Disadvantages -It can only be used to correct relatively minor flaws, which is its main drawback. -The dentist can only extract so much enamel because it is only the exterior layer. As a result, they can only remove a certain amount of enamel before teeth start to affect. -Tooth reshaping may not always be sufficient. It frequently goes together with tooth bonding. While tooth contouring requires the removal of enamel, tooth bonding relies on the application of a composite resin that is tooth-colored to one or more of your teeth to correct flaws.

They're All Top Notch
Julie C.

I'm so happy to have found this awesome dentist with an awesome staff. I am completely confident in the doctor's skill level, and completely comfortable relying on him to work on me without allowing me to experience unnecessary pain. In addition to having a good relationship with the dentist, being able to relate with the office staff is equally important to me. From the hygienist to the dental assistants to the front desk, they're all top notch.

This is the best dentist I have been to and I have been to several. The team is professional and welcoming. They are never over-booked and I have never waited more than 5 minutes in the lobby. They are so efficient, no matter what I go in for, I am out in 45 minutes or less. I highly recommend Cypress Family Dental.

The Staff Did A Great Job
David L.

Came to Cypress Family Dental a year ago for my sleep apnea device. No more snoring! The staff did a great job fitting me for this oral appliance. Better yet, they were there to support me when I needed some adjustments later on. The front office staff couldn't have been more accommodating to schedule me in. Easy to recommend.

They Truly Care
Tina E.

The dentist and his staff are wonderful people! In the past, I have had horrible experiences at other dentist offices and then I found this place and I don't think I would ever go anywhere else again. I live about 45 min away from their office but the drive is well worth it. They truly care about their patients. I would recommend this office to anyone.
